Readers, in case you weren't aware, I'm half Italian. Still trying to figure out if that's my better half or not, but it's true. Without trying to perpetuate stereotypes, when I was younger, a fair portion of the furniture at Grandma and Grandpa's had plastic on it. Now, when we actually could use the plastic, there is no plastic. Needless to say, Grandma let me put baby Max on her living room sofa, sans plastic. Luckily we didn't have any accidents and all was safe.
