At first, Max is very, very skeptical. I'm sure he's thinking "Why do you have me in my Bumbo in an elevated position? And, what is that object in that bucket of slop?" His skepticism is understandable -- he used to get all of his nourishment in a very efficient manner. Four bottles over the course of the day, about 10 minutes each. All business. How could something new be any better?

Nevertheless, he opens his mouth as the spoon nears. Why not? He puts everything in his mouth. His toes, his friend's toes and other things we don't need to get into here.

Eventually Max begins to like it and demands that the spoonfulls keep coming and coming.

Behind the cereal all over his mouth, there's a faint smile. The smile lasted only about a second, however. Once he realizes it's over, he gets really, really angry. It's never a good time around the house when Max finishes a meal.
On a side note, it's not clear if these pictures are cute. Hey world, here's my kid eating! Check out the slop all over his face! Even if it's not cute, it's an important milestone in his life and I guess it should be documented. On August 3, about a month after this photo shoot, we'll be taking Max to Peter Lugers for his first porterhouse. We'll be sure to fill you in on that afterwards.
