Sure, we live a half block from Central Park, but if you go out to see the parade at 9am, you won't be able to get any closer than that half block to see anything. This year, I thought Max was old enough to actually appreciate things, so I devised a complex plan to make it all happen:
- Inform guests that Thanksgiving dinner will be late this year, around 4pm so we can cook the Turkey after the parade
- Get Max up early
- Give him his milk, feed him, change him (crossing fingers for a poop), get him dressed
- No coffee for me, just a light breakfast
- Pack a couple of light snacks for Max
- Bring two cell phones, but no toys, to occupy him
- Bring the small camera
- Exit the apartment at 745am
- Find the perfect spot along the west side of CPW
- Wait 90 minutes
- Pray for no melt down!
See, the plan is indeed very simple, but someone in our household wanted no part of it. She thought we'd be back in 15 minutes. Turns out, we sat and played nicely with a Canadian family of three young boys. Nothing's better than three older boys to distract Max for over an hour! Since it was hard to juggle Max on my shoulders and the camera, this is the only picture I have to prove Max was actually there.
